Grade 3 OCFC

Year 3 Courses

OC FOUNDATION COURSE

Students will alternate between working on workbook lessons and practicing exam-style questions from the OC placement test.

OC Foundation Course

Starting in 2026, the OC exam will be a computer-based test (CBT) held in early May. To help students adapt, we are launching the OC Foundation Course (OCFC) for Year 3 students. This course builds a strong foundation in OC exam question types, preparing students for a smooth transition to the computer-based OC Trial Test Course (OCTTC) in Term 3.

The Opportunity Class Placement test has 3 test section.

What benefits will your child have?

The OCFC helps increase accuracy and can help to minimise errors.

By practising exam questions every week, results and competence can steadily improve.

The OCFC helps increase the speed of answering questions.

Immediate feedback is provided to parents about those areas on which their child should focus on. Weekly result sheets indicate each student’s strengths and weaknesses.

How our OC FC Program works

Reading

Each reading week tackles a different reading format: comprehension, poems, gapped texts, and multiple matching. Students receive workbooks with practice questions to solidify their understanding of the week’s text type. Vocabulary lists are provided to boost language skills.

After the workbook lesson, students take a class test on the specific format. This is followed by a review session where the format is analysed in detail, and test questions are explained.

Mathematical Reasoning & Stage 2 Maths

Each week, students will learn and master the topics outlined in the Stage 2 (NSW K-10 Syllabus) Maths covered through the workbook. This is followed by a mathematical reasoning test and a review session for detailed explanations and reinforcement.

Remember that Stage 2 Maths skill is crucial for both the OC Mathematical Reasoning Test and the Problem-Solving section of the Thinking Skills Test.

Thinking skills

Each thinking skills week centres on a specific topic: critical thinking or problem-solving skills. Students will work through their workbook, which includes practice questions to solidify their understanding of the week’s topic.

The workbook lesson is followed by the thinking skills test on the specific topic. Finally, a review session delves into the question type in detail, providing explanations for the test questions.

CBT Term Test (Week 11)

Students will take the term tests covering Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, and Thinking Skills. This will allow students to experience the computer-based test format, which will be conducted in Term 3 OCTTC.

Remember: While our course and experienced educators provide excellent support, consistent effort from students and support from parents are key to achieving the best results.
